Our Work

City of Houston Energy Efficiency Projects

HARC works with the City of Houston on a wide range of energy efficiency projects. Through its partnership with the City of Houston, HARC works with commercial building managers, residential builders, and homeowners to demonstrate leadership in energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Energy efficiency projects have included:

  • Working with building contractors provide energy efficiency upgrades with guaranteed energy savings for City of Houston-owned buildings;
  • Partnering with SmarteBuilding, a company that installed real-time energy monitoring devices and data collection systems to provide 3 City of Houston-owned buildings with detailed energy use data. The data was used to drive behavior-based energy reductions and provide information to building managers so that they could reduce demand charges;
  • Collaborating on the 5-Star Program, an incentive program for home builders to construct highly energy-efficient homes (often with solar) in low income neighborhoods in the City; and
  • Working on the Energy Efficiency Incentive Program with which provided incentives to commercial building owners to install energy efficiency upgrades to their properties.
