Hurricane Harvey brought record rainfall and flooding to the Houston-Galveston region. The impacts of the storm and ensuing flooding included loss of lives, homes and livelihoods. In response, researchers from the region with expertise in hydrology, climate science, engineering, coastal resiliency, energy, community development and urban planning came together to strategize on solutions.
The Galveston Bay Report Card is the first environmental report of its kind in our area. This video is an introduction to the project and discusses the release of GalvBayGrade.org.
HARC and the Galveston Bay Foundation have teamed up to create a user friendly grading system to communicate the health of the bay to the public. HARC’s role in the report card was to analyze existing data sets from state and federal agencies and devise a grading system that describes what those trends mean in a way that is easy for the public to understand.
